Running injuries affect one in every three runners, research figures suggest
that high school athletes alone experience approximately two million
injuries, leading to almost 500,000 visits to healthcare providers and nearly
30,000 hospitalizations each year.
The most common cause of injury amongst new runners is -Too much too soon,
as with any sport build your routine slowly and don't try to run before you
can walk.
Watch your hydration Levels carefully as dehydration severely tightens
muscles causing cramps and in severe cases, heat stroke.
One final thing to watch is
overtraining. Know your Limits!
Knee Pain
The two main types of Knee injury are : Chondromalacia and Illiotibial Band
Syndrome (ITBS).
Chondromalacia
is a degeneration of the tissue under the kneecap (patella),as a result the
bones grind against each other causing irritation and pain, which is normally
felt directly behind the kneecap.
Iliotibial Band Syndrome occurs when the band of fibrous tissue that that
runs down the outside of the thigh repeatedly rubs over the bump of the
thighbone (femur), close to the knee, causing irritation to the band. The
pain is felt on the outside of the knee right above the joint.

Lower Leg Pain
The two main types of Lower leg injury are : Shin Splints and Achilles
Tendonitis.
Shin Splints
or Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome (MTSS)
occurs as a result of overload on the shinbone and the connective tissues
that attach the bone to the muscle. Pain is felt along the Shinbone (Tibia)
at the front of the lower Leg.
Achilles Tendonitis accounts for around 11% of all running injuries, if
left untreated this injury can lead to an
Achilles Tendon Rupture. Pain is normally felt in the back of the
lower leg usually close to the heel.

Hallux Rigidus is the term used to describe a form of degenerative
arthritis, affecting the joint located at the base of the big toe.
Mortons Neuroma is defined as an inflammatory foot problem characterized
